Camera Mode Beta: Capture Photos with Live Film Simulation
Today we're launching the beta of Camera Mode — a new way to shoot directly in your browser with film simulation filters running live, before you press the shutter.
What It Does
Camera Mode runs your camera feed through the same film presets available in the editor, in real time. When you capture a photo, what you see is what you get — the filter is already baked in.
Here's what you can do:
- Preview every preset live — Teal & Orange, Faded Film, Warm Vintage, Cool Chrome, and all the rest render at full speed as you frame the shot
- Adjust strength before shooting — Dial the film effect from subtle to full using the strength slider
- Control grain on the fly — Choose None, Low, Mid, or High grain before you capture
- Flip between cameras — Switch front and back with a single tap, no filter reset
How to Use It
- Tap Camera Mode on the homepage
- Allow camera access when prompted
- Select a film preset from the row at the bottom
- Adjust strength and grain to taste
- Tap the shutter button
- Your photo opens automatically in the editor — add a watermark, tweak EXIF, and export
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Why Beta?
Camera Mode works well across modern phones and browsers, but we're still tuning a few things:
- Performance on older or lower-end devices
- Rendering consistency across different browser environments
- UI refinements based on real-world feedback
If you run into anything unexpected, that feedback helps us improve it faster.
Try It
Open Camera Mode from the homepage. It's free, no signup needed, and works wherever SHOTON APP does.
