Guide

How the Apple shot-on frame works

What is a Shot on iPhone Watermark?

A "shot on iPhone" style watermark is a thin bar added to the bottom of your photo that shows the Apple logo and iPhone (or iPad) model along with the camera settings Apple EXIF data records — aperture, focal length, and ISO.

The style gained popularity from Apple's own "Shot on iPhone" advertising campaign. Photographers and content creators use it to give their iPhone photos a professional finish and to show the power of iPhone computational photography.

SHOTON generates this in your browser. Your photo stays on your device.

iPhones write very detailed EXIF including the specific camera module (Main, Ultra Wide, Telephoto). All values are editable.

Supported iPhone and iPad Models

  • iPhone 16 Pro / 16 Pro Max — ProRes video, 48 MP Fusion camera with 5× optical zoom
  • iPhone 15 Pro — the first iPhone with titanium frame and Action Button
  • iPhone 14 Pro — 48 MP main sensor with 100% larger photosites
  • iPhone SE (3rd gen) — compact form factor with A15 Bionic neural engine
  • iPad Pro M4 — 12 MP front and back cameras, useful for video work

All iPhone and iPad models are supported. If EXIF doesn't identify your model automatically, you can type any model name in the EXIF tab in the editor.

iPhone EXIF Notes

Apple's EXIF includes the lens descriptor — "Back Triple Camera 12MP" or "Back Camera" — in the model field. SHOTON lets you clean this up in the EXIF editor if you prefer a shorter model name like "iPhone 16 Pro."

The focal length EXIF reflects the 35mm equivalent value for the lens used. For the Ultra Wide lens, this is typically 13mm; for the main lens, 24mm; for Telephoto, 77mm or 120mm depending on generation.

How to Add a Shot on iPhone Watermark

  1. Upload your iPhone photo using the dropzone above.
  2. The Classic frame opens automatically. SHOTON detects the Apple logo from EXIF; if the brand is missing, Apple is suggested and can be changed from Frame settings.
  3. Tap the EXIF button to edit the model name to exactly how you want it shown.
  4. Download your full-resolution watermarked image.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with HEIC files from iPhone? Yes. SHOTON accepts HEIC directly. EXIF data is read from the file.

Can I change the model name to just "iPhone 16 Pro" instead of the full Apple model string? Yes. Open the EXIF editor and type exactly what you want to appear — the watermark will display it as-is.

Does the Apple logo appear? Yes. The Apple logo is included in the Classic watermark and is enabled by default when Apple EXIF is detected.

Can I watermark Live Photos from iPhone? Export your Live Photo as a still JPEG from the Photos app first, then upload to SHOTON.

Is this free? Yes, completely free with no account required.

Does this work on Android or other mobile browsers? Yes. Upload a photo directly from any phone using the dropzone above, or tap Camera Mode to shoot with a live filter preview. SHOTON reads your camera brand from EXIF when available. For uploads from this page, Apple is suggested if no brand is detected; you can change the logo from Frame settings.
